In very strong magnetic fields, when the electron cyclotron energy is much higher than the atomic binding energy, the properties of atoms are changed drastically. I will overview the effects of strong magnetic fields on the structure and radiative transitions of atoms and ions, with allowance for their motion, and discuss observational signatures of these effects.
