GGWP Science Jamboree
On Tuesday, September 16, 2008, from 4:00 to 6:00 pm, in Whitmore 320
The CGWP seminar on September 16, 2008 will be devoted to a 2-hour
science jamboree. The idea behind the science jamboree is to get
everyone acquainted with everyone else and their science. This is an
opportunity for all members of the CGWP to give a concise summary of
their research to all the other members of the center. For those who
need some extra incentive to attend, we will have the king issue a
decree requiring their attendance. In other words, be there or be
square.
The ground rules:
- Hours: 4-6 pm
- All CGWP members are treated equally, regardless of their status.
- Everyone gets 3 minutes and a single (old-fashioned)
transparency to make their presentation. We will have an
overhead projector set up so that you can show your
transparency.
- A presentation is followed by 2 minutes of questions from the
audience.
- The order of the talks is alphabetical by last name, based on the
royal list of members.
- The rules are enforced strictly (without passion or prejudice)
by the master of ceremonies.
- Beverages are served before the talks and pizza is served at
the end but only to those that did their part at the jamboree.
- Members of the audience can come and go according their
obligations as long as they are discrete and considerate.
It is advisable to practice your talks and make sure that you can
say what you want to say within 3 minutes. But you can also deliver an
impromptu speech and just keep talking until your time is up.
